Zithromax (Azithromycin)

Zithromax it is used for treatment of some bacteriemic infectious diseases. It can be used in a complex with other medicines at treatment or preventive maintenance of certain infectious diseases at patients with progressing a HIV-infection. It can be used in other conditions according to prescriptions of your attending physician.

Use Zithromax in accordance with prescriptions of your doctor. For definition of an exact dose attentively study the instruction on medicine application.

Take Zithromax in 1 hour prior to meal or in 2 hours after. For prevention of a possible gastric disturbance the medicine can be taken together with meal.

Do not take an antacid containing aluminium or magnesium within 1 hour to or later 2 hours after you have taken Zithromax.

The best effect at taking of Zithromax is reached when the medicine is used at the same time every day.

For full treatment of an infectious disease it is necessary to take Zithromax during a complete course of treatment. It is necessary to take a medicine even if you feel enriching in some days.

Zithromax - is a macrolide antibiotic, promoting growth retardation, and sometimes destruction of sensitive bacteria by reduction of the proteins necessary for the existence of bacteries.

If you missed taking of Zithromax, it is necessary to take it as soon as possible. If this time coincides with the planned drug intake, than it is possible not to take it and return to a regular schedule of intake. It is not recommended to take 2 doses at once.

Tablets of Zithromax should be stored at temperature between 15 - 30 degrees C (59 - 86 degrees by Farenheit). The prepared suspension needs to be stored at temperature 5 - 30 degrees C (41 - 86 degrees by Farenheit) and it is necessary to stop storage upon termination of course of treatment or within 10 days. Shake up a drug before each use. Store densely occluded.

Do NOT use Zithromax if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Zithromax, to other macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), or to ketolide antibiotics (eg, telithromycin)
• you are taking pimozide

• if you have liver or kidney problems or abnormal heart rhythms
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

• rifampin because it may decrease Zithromax's effectiveness
• anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), digoxin, disopyramide, pimozide, or rifampin because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Zithromax
• theophylline because blood levels may temporarily decrease after stopping Zithromax

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

• diarrhea; headache; loose stools; nausea; stomach pain; upset stomach; vomiting.

• Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloody stools; chest pain; dark red, raised areas of the skin; hearing loss; pounding in the chest; ringing in the ears; severe diarrhea; stomach cramps/pain; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
